Fairies
Sissy surpised us all last night with her dancing debut at the Mount Baker Theatre. Earlier in the day, during dress rehearsal, she panicked and refused to practice on the stage. It was hard to blame her, since the theatre is enormous, there were hundreds and hundreds of people watching, bright lights, etc.
We weren't too sure what to expect for the evening performance, but Mommy took her early, got her dressed, and brought her backstage. You can see a few shots here of her passing time backstage coloring, or watching the acts before her. I think the thrid shot down shows both her excitment and apprehension. So, when Mommy managed to sneak away to her seat with about five minutes to show time (after a quite a few failed attempts which resulted in tears) we weren't too confident our dancer would ever come out on stage. We decided that was fine and that just getting dressed up and learning the dance was a big accomplishment.
Wow, were we all moved when the music began and out tiptoed Liza Jane. She was smiling and knew almost the whole routine. Mom wished she'd brought along more kleenex. It was fantastic. The best part was giving her flowers afterwards and hearing her exclaim, "I'm so proud of myself."
We look forward to many more shows to come.
